Diane Lang, Therapist, Educator and Author of ‘Creating Balance and Finding Happiness’ offers some advice on helping students find ways to cope with and overcome bullying.
“Bullying is scary enough. It causes anxiety/fear for a student and makes everyday a struggle. This should never be handled alone. A student who is getting bullied on a constant basis needs support and self-esteem boosting. A parent and school needs to know their students. If the parent/teachers know their students, they will be able to spot the warning signs/red flags in a student when they are sad, depressed or anxious. A child needs support outside of the home as well…this can include outside activities to boost self-esteem like karate, counseling, support group and community activities like volunteering or even a religious affiliation. This will allow the student to have outside friends/resources. This will help boost the self-esteem of the child and let them know they have other friends/life outside of school.”

Eco-Fashion: Going Green exposition at The Museum at FIT explores fashion’s relationship with the environment. “Eco-fashion” is contemporary, but the fashion industry has had a long connection with the environment from the growth process and manufacture of fibers, sometimes obscure dyeing practices, debate of leather and fur, the health and treatment of industry workers, to incredible strides to protect the environment made my some of the hottest designers in the industry. This fascinating exhibit explores the history of the industry and features some of the finest examples of sustainable fashion by current, cutting-edge labels, including Ciel, Bodkin, Edun, FIN, and NOIR. The exhibition runs through November 13, 2010 in the Fashion and Textile History Gallery at The Museum at FIT, New York City.

Stress is inevitable. But the debilitating strain of chronic work stress is not, even if you’re in an inherently stressful profession. In fact, learning to manage your stress is likely to improve your career, according to career coach Julie Jansen, the author of “You Want Me to Work With Who? Eleven Keys to a Stress-Free, Satisfying, and Successful Work Life–No Matter Who You Work With.”
While you probably can’t control layoffs or reorganizations, there are things you can control–and you should focus on those, says Diane Lang, a health and wellness counselor in New York City.
“I had a client who couldn’t leave her job at the moment because she was a single parent,” she said. “So we made a list of everything she could control and worked on the list.”
Such a list might include focusing on improving your own job performance and setting short- and long-term goals for changing jobs.

On the heels of women’s Web preferences in yesterday’s Research Brief, Lucid Marketing presents a slice of that total market by exposing Twitter preferences among those who are “hooked on Twitter.” 57.9% of moms Twitter from their cell phone, iPhone, Blackberry or smartphone. According to the study by Lucid and Lisa Finn, not only do the majority of moms use Twitter to find out about new products and keep up with businesses they like, but they’re also interested in getting links to news and articles on topics that matter to them. The most important motivator for moms to follow a business on Twitter is that the business provides useful information in its Twitter feed (68%).
53% Tweet to learn about new products
52% Tweet to keep up with their professional contacts
While moms are receptive to marketing on both sites, they’re a bit more protective of their personal space on Facebook, and a bit more focused on getting coupons and special offers there. On Twitter they’re looking for good deals, too, but they also want to be kept informed about news and articles that are relevant to their lives.

On Tuesday April 27th 6:30-9:30pm at The Westwood 438 North Avenue in Garwood, NJ, Westfield MomsTown, The Christopher Academy and Panda Apparel are hosting an extremely worthwhile, yet somewhat touchy subject – “Educate and Protect Your Children From Stranger Danger”. Our guest speaker, Alan J. Robinson, member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Project ALERT, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Adam Walsh Foundation has worked for years in law enforcement specializing in child abductions and exploitation.
Did you know……..Approximately 2,100 children are reported missing each day? In 35 seconds your child could be abducted by an experienced pedophile? In 80% of abductions by strangers, the first contact occurs within a quarter mile of the child’s home. In many cases, the abduction does, too.
As parents we give our children as many opportunities to play safely through the use of bike helmets, swim lessons and protective gear. We talk with our children about the rules of the road, to look both ways when crossing and never to talk to strangers. But, are we providing our children with the proper personal safety tools and knowledge to truly protect themselves if ever faced with certain dangers?
Do you ever wonder how you child would handle a stranger approaching them? Could your child be persuaded to go with a stranger? How can you talk with your child and not scare them? What tools are needed to prevent child abduction?
Personal safety habits start young. We all believe we know what to do and that our children will also know what to do if faced with stranger danger, but will they? Educate yourself by attending this important program on child safety!
